James D. Thayer: Bears in the Caviar

James D. Thayer: Bears in the Caviar

Treat yourself and Dad to our guest speaker James Thayer whose father Charles W. Thayer was a member of the American diplomatic corps serving in Moscow from 1933 – 1937 and 1940 – 1942. His dad's book BEARS IN THE CAVIAR is an hilarious and insightful memoir of US-Soviet relations from the beginning of those international affairs. Mr. Thayer served at the embassy in Moscow when the world’s first Transpolar Flight – flown by Chkalov, Baidukov and Belyakov landed at Pearson Army Airfield in Vancouver, WA, on June 20, 1937.

Jim Thayer will autograph books in honor of his late father Charles. This is Jim Thayer’s second talk for the Friends – he is the author of Hiking from Portland to the Coast. We will have copies of both books for sale in the shop.
